The Canadian flag at the RBC Plaza (below Building 300) on VIU’s Nanaimo campus is flown at half-mast at the request of families of employees or students at Vancouver Island University who pass away. The flag is also flown at half-mast on the death of the Sovereign, the Prime Minister of Canada, the Premier of the province or other distinguished persons, or to mark solemn occasions as designated by the President or Associate Vice-President of External Relations.
