Flags are lowered to honour the passing of Jim Davenock

The flags will be lowered February 5 to 9, 2026

It is with deep sadness that we share that James (Jim) Davenock, a long‑time VIU IT Technician, passed away in December.

Jim spent more than 25 years supporting students, faculty and staff across our campuses. He was known not only for his technical expertise, but also for his kindness, humour and genuine care for the people he worked with. Many of us will remember the way he checked in on others, his dry wit during stressful moments, and his behind‑the‑scenes commitment to ensuring technology “just worked” for our community.

As per his wishes, there will be no service. Jim asked that anyone wishing to honour his memory consider a donation to the dialysis unit at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital, in appreciation of the care he received.

We are grateful for Jim’s many years of dedication to VIU, and he will be deeply missed.
